Dölle begint het boek met te vertellen hoe hij, zeven jaar oud, in 1924 Brandsma ontmoette. Hij sympathiseert sterk met hem. Hij noemt het boek een ‘spirituele biografie’. Het boek is informatief en leest prettig. Het boek is ook vertaald in het Engels.
